Thailand is hosting the “World Congress of Nephrology 2023” for the very first time at QSNCC; aimed for patients’ equitable access to treatments

31 Mar 2023

The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is welcoming more than 4,000 nephrologists from around the world to join “World Congress of Nephrology 2023” (WCN 2023), one of the world’s largest kidney care events, hosted for the first time in Thailand.

The event is graciously supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is the chairperson of The Kidney Foundation of Thailand and has presided over the event. The event runs from March 30 to April 2 and features an exhibition titled “Knowledge Enhanced for Healthy Kidneys”.

The World Congress of Nephrology (WCN) is hosted by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), which was founded in 1960 with a focus on advancing worldwide education, science, and patient care in nephrology towards research and knowledge development. The society has grown to become a leading international community with more than 30,000 members from across the globe. This annual event, which will be conducted each year in different countries in the world, is set as a stage for top nephrologists to join and exchange their knowledge.

“Currently, the number of patients with chronic kidney disease tends to rise around the world and most patients have limited access to treatment,” said Mr. Michael Podt, Meetings and Events Director at the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).

“To conduct WCN 2023, we were looking for a host country that has strong potential in terms of medical and public health in order to build a strong network that leads to equitable and sustainable access to treatment for patients worldwide. This is in line with ISN’s core value to promote equal and equitable access to treatment for patients,” Mr. Podt explained.

“We have chosen QSNCC as the venue for the WCN 2023 due to its convenient location right in the heart of Bangkok and its connection to all forms of travel. There are a lot of accommodations and hotels in the surrounding area making it convenient for the attendees to come to the event. And most importantly, we choose QSNCC because of its great reputation based on famous Thai hospitality, which is known widely around the world,” Mr. Podt added.

Associate Professor Surasak Kantachuvesiri, Chairman of the organizing committee of the World Congress of Nephrology 2023, said: “As the organizing chair of WCN 2023, I am honored and proud that Thailand has been chosen to host this year’s World Congress of Nephrology. This shows how Thai public health has received international recognition and reflects Thailand's readiness to host international conferences.
I sincerely hope that this conference, in addition to bringing about the exchange of knowledge in innovations that will help increase the efficiency of treatment for patients with kidney disease, will become a forum that pushes a national agenda on policies to allow more access to treatments in remote areas.”

Sakchai Pattarapreechakul, CEO of N.C.C. Management and Development Co., Ltd., the operator of QSNCC said: “We are truly honored to be trusted by the International Society of Nephrology to organize the internationally renowned WCN 2023. This reflects the capability of QSNCC to host such grand events whether in terms of event space, staffs, and services. We are confident that our experience and professionalism will genuinely impress organizers and attendees alike at the event.”
