Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Thailand’s first national convention center; the national pride re-opening after the grand renovation with a new contemporary design yet preserves the Thai identity.  Positioning as “The Ultimate Inspiring World Class Event Platform for All” supports all kinds of event functions without limitation.

After three and a half years of major renovations, QSNCC is now ready to re-open on September 12, 2022, to welcome all kinds of domestic and international organizers and visitors. Representing Thailand in conveying Thai identity to the international eye, QSNCC is designed under the concept of ‘Inherit, Preserve and Continue’.

‘Inherit, Preserve and Continue’ is the main concept for this major renovation

Sutichai Bunditvorapoom, Executive Vice President of N.C.C. Management and Development Co., Ltd. the operator of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, revealed that “The key objective to remodeling the Center was the eagerness to drive Thailand to be a leader in the event industry, both on a regional and global level. Throughout the development of this project, we gathered specialists and leading companies in various fields in Thailand. One of the main parts is the design team which include architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture under the concept of ‘Inherit, Preserve, Continue’. This concept allows QSNCC to become “The Ultimate Inspiring World Class Event Platform for All” that can support all kinds of events and represent Thailand as a place to welcome guests from around the world. We also want the QSNCC to reflect our unique Thainess to the eyes of people internationally.”

An architecture that describes how QSNCC is more than just a ‘convention center’

Noppadon Tanpiwat, Chief Executive Officer of Design 103 International Ltd. and head of the architectural team for QSNCC’s renovation project, said, “The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is the first convention center in Thailand. And over the years, it has been a venue for more than 20,000 national and international events. With that in mind, to come up with a new architectural design, it must capture its glorious past while reflecting the image of what it will become in the future. Therefore, we have laid down three main pillars - Inspiration, Integration, and Innovation - to tell its story. We start by interpreting the concept of ‘Inherit, Preserve and Continue’ through Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s grace and manner and come up with the use of curves that complete the space of the building. With this interpretation, you would have seen that we create a modern space with a perfect blend of authentic Thai style.”

The contemporary Thai architecture design that has illustrated in every sense of the word

Arisara Chaktranon, Co-founder of ONION Co., Ltd. talked about an interior design concept for the QSNCC’s new look, “The outstanding space that we created inside the QSNCC will bring in new memories for anyone who comes visit from now on. We took inspiration from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s vast collection of royal outfits. Over the past decades, she has set a great example in terms of how you preserve and value the art and culture in your country through modern clothing. She would frequently wear outfits made from ‘Thai fabric’. We appreciate that and take that as our inspiration by bringing so many interesting identities of different Thai fabrics to design the interior, applying them, and blending them to each area inside the QSNCC to create a unique, new approach to interior design for this newly renovated center.”

Create a unique environment to ‘link the QSNCC to the urban neighborhood'

Yoottapol Samhansook, Junior Associate Director & Design Director of SHMA Co., Ltd. who was responsible for the landscape design of all areas surrounding the QSNCC, said “Landscape architecture refers to the science of designing, planning, and utilizing the space around the building. And for the newly renovated QSNCC, we must improve its landscape design to correspond with its changing identity as well. We set the goal for the Center to be more in line with the current urban society but the important part of doing this is to maintain its green space and connect it with the surrounding area. A system has been put in place for people to be able to travel in and out easily without getting lost. We improved the courtyard in front of the Center which help create more space at the ‘Lokuttara’ sculpture to make it a better public space that can be used for a variety of purposes. We also improve various minor elements, rearranging them to be more aesthetically pleasing while offering a better view of Benjakitti Park. Any limited space we have seen, we want it to be in use with its full efficiency.”

In addition to these design team, the QSNCC has also collaborated with experts in various fields to allow the Center to comply with the needs of people in terms of technology, sustainability, and safety. With that being said, the QSNCC hopes to become a great venue with the best facilities and modern technologies providing superior service under international standards.
