NCC endorses the BCG Economy model and announces a collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to increase the value of waste and support environmental research
N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd., the operator of Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), signs a memorandum of understanding on academic cooperation with the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to support the use of dehydrated organic waste in research. The agreement emphasizes NCC's support for the Bio-Circular-Green Economy model (BCG Economy model).
Sakchai Pattarapreechakul, CEO of N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd., the operator of QSNCC, said, "The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center focuses on the BCG Economy model and the advancement of environmental quality. We have clear guidelines for green event management and sustainable business from upstream to downstream. It is a privilege to contribute to DEQP's research on dehydrated organic waste. We are honored to be able to support the government' BCG economic model, which will lead to community development for a good quality of life and propel the country toward sustainable development."
Somsak Sappakosonkul, Director-General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, said, "Thailand produced 24.98 million tons of waste per year in 2021, or approximately 68,000 tons per day, with organic waste accounting for 50% of total waste. The average amount of waste produced per person per day is 1.14 kilograms. Only 32% of total waste is reused, 37% is properly disposed of, and the remaining 31% is improperly disposed of, resulting in "waste accumulation" and pollution. It is a pathogen breeding ground, causing public health issues and wasting resources. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's Department of Environmental Quality Promotion is dedicated to converting waste into resources that can be reused. Waste disposal should have no negative impact on people or the environment."
This collaboration aims to promote and support waste management at the source by using dehydrated organic waste from QSNCC in environmental research and academic services, and to disseminate the knowledge to the community, ecological network, and the general public.
NCC has installed a waste dehydrator at QSNCC to reduce the amount of food waste that would otherwise end up in landfills and contribute to global warming. It will eliminate up to 146,000 kilograms of food waste annually, lowering greenhouse gas emissions by more than 369,000 KgCO2e/year and equating to planting more than 40,000 trees per year.
